The IndoBeef research program has commenced the first feeding trial in Lombok for the CropCow project, in March 2019.
This trial forms part of University of New England PhD candidate Fahrul Irawan's experimental research program, entitled: The effectiveness of starch supplementation on mimosine or DHP conjugation in Bali cattle fed Leucaena leucocephala.
Fahrul’s trial work is being supervised by Dr Fran Cowley (UNE), Dr Mic Halliday (UNE), Prof Roger Hegarty (UNE) and Prof Dahlanuddin (University of Mataram). It is being conducted in partnership with The University of Queensland's ACIAR-funded MoreBeef project, providing an opportunity for linkages across ACIAR-funded research projects in Indonesia.
In preparation for the trial, Fahrul Irawan and Dedi Supriadi (a University of Mataram Masters Student) have recently been receiving training at the University of Mataram on collecting and preserving urine samples from bulls for Leucaena toxin (DHP) analysis by Dr Mic Halliday.
