Mataram University renews formal relationship with UNE

A delegation from the University of Mataram (UNRAM) visited the University of New England in March 2019 to meet with researchers to explore opportunities for collaboration, and to renew a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate joint opportunities for research and higher degree research student supervision.

Activities

The UNRAM delegation included Professor Lalu Husni (Rector), Dr Maskur (Dean, Faculty of Animal Science) and Professor Dahlanuddin (animal science researcher and IndoBeef CropCow team member).

During their visit, the delegation met with the UNE IndoBeef research team for an overview of the project and its linkages with UNE’s PhD.I program, and to discuss animal science research priorities.

Meetings were also held with UNE Deans, senior academic leadership and UNE academics working on international development projects, to discuss opportunities for collaboration. Professor Husni met with UNE Vice Chancellor, Professor Annabelle Duncan and Chancellor, Mr James Harris.

Following these meetings, a ceremony was held to sign a new MoU, and the UNRAM delegation took the opportunity to tour UNE’s SMART Farm and livestock, poultry and agronomy research facilities

Guest lecture

While visiting UNE, UNRAM’s Professor Dahlanuddin gave a guest lecture ‘Improving beef production in Eastern Indonesia’.

He summarised the growing demand for beef in Indonesia and the current production system, and provided a rationale for expanding beef production.

Professor Dahlanuddin summarised the significant body of research work in beef production in indonesia, much of which underpins the CropCow project.

The lecture was well attended by UNE academic staff and postgraduate students, including a cohort of Indonesian students currently undertaking postgraduate study in the sciences at UNE.
